We are delighted to be taking part in Agroforestry Open Weekend 2026
Our farm
My Family have farmed at Flansham, West Sussex since 1802. Until 2016 the farm was used for rearing all youngstock for our Dairy Farm in the South Downs. TB got the better of us and we took the difficult decision to close the herd. Prior to this we lost 25 acres due to the building of a new road to circumvent the local town of Bognor Regis. This left us with an exposed area of land which due to its close proximity to transport links makes an excellent target for housing developers. I have had over 50 offers for this area of land. If development were to take place it would absolutely ruin our Hamlet of Flansham, a prospect which we just cannot entertain. With this in mind we decided to make the likelihood of such a development impossible by planting the entire 8 hectare site with a brand new woodland!!!
Our agroforestry
This is woodland creation on a large scale given the sites location in such close proximity to the Urban environment. Over 11,000 trees have been planted to create a beautiful broadleaved woodland for future generations to enjoy – far better than a few hundred houses in our opinion. Visitors can enjoy the sight of what a forest looks like in its infancy – the trees were only planted 14 months ago. Guides will be on hand to explain the planting process, treatment and care of young trees, species choice and future management moving forward. We really look forward to welcoming you and sharing our vision for a “greener” future for our neighbourhood.
