Pembrokeshire Agroforestry

We are delighted to be taking part in Agroforestry Open Weekend 2024
Our farm

Pencedni is a 10 acre smallholding in the foothills of the Preselis. We are at about 120 meters elevation, strongly South facing, with a good free draining acid loam soil. There is an abundant spring on site for all our water needs. The wider landscape is a patchwork of small, hilly fields with pockets of scrubby woodland and many mature trees in the hedgerows.

Our agroforestry

We rotationally graze a small flock of Badgerface Torwen sheep around our fields. Over the last several years we have been establishing various trees in the fields, experimenting with a number of methods for protection from browse damage. The planting layout is somewhat informal, as topography, access and existing trees wouldn’t allow much else. Some of the main features are a walnut orchard, a desert apple orchard, stands of tree hay for the sheep, and various experimental coppice coups for biomass etc.

Here are some photos of what we do:

how to find us

The postcode SA340YD should bring you to the bottom of the track. There is splay with a boulder wall and our house (white with red windows) is just visible form the road. Look for Pencedni.

agroforestry open weekend 2023

We will be open to visitors over the whole weekend.

please don’t just turn up/feel free to just turn up

We would appreciate some arrangement before arrival. A phone call in advance would be fine. Please ring Tom on 07968086371.

facilities/refreshments

We will provide hot / cold drinks and cake.

parking/access

Parking is somewhat limited, so please do ring in advance so we can make sure there’s space to receive you.

dogs

We will have lambs at this time of year so we regret that dogs will have to stay in the car / on a lead if they come along.

disability access

It’s very hilly around here! But there is a nice level track running across most of the land so it would be possible to get an impression of what we are doing without needing to off-road.
