Our farm

Haye Farm comprises 50 acres of permanent pasture and traditional orchards. My parents came to the farm in the 1950’s. I was born at the farm and have lived and worked here most of the time since. Over the years we’ve introduced permaculture principles and more recently regenerative farming practises have been adopted

Our agroforestry

The forest garden at Haye Farm was first established in the 1990’s. After several years of neglect it’s been restored and is now maintained by a group of volunteers that meet at the farm every week. The volunteers also help look after the traditional orchards.

Tree alleys have been planted extensively on most of the pasture. The main objective is to produce an extra fodder crop for our grazing livestock. Additionally the trees provide shade and shelter for the animals, mitigate extremes of weather and draw minerals from deep in the soil. They provide us with a reserve of food during periods of drought and an infrastructure has been created for our mob grazing system with daily moves for the livestock.

Additionally some alleys have been planted with nut and unusual fruit trees. Much of what we’re doing is experimental we’ve made mistakes along the way but it’s exciting to see the landscape evolving as we build ever increasing resilience into our system.

agroforestry open weekend 2025

Haye Farm will be opening for the Agroforestry weekend for the first time in 2026. We will be doing a guided tour of the site on Sunday 17th May at 2pm. Please email Stuart to book your place on the tour hayefarm@live.co.uk
