We are delighted to be taking part in Agroforestry Open Weekend 2024
Our farm
Our farm is undergoing transformative change from an industrial farming system to a very low input, in some cases organic, arable farm. We haven’t used any fungicides, insecticides, plant growth regulators or seed treatments for 3 years and we use about 20% of the synthetic nitrogen that we formerly used, with plans to keep reducing further. We all love this farming journey and so does the soil and the wildlife – it’s extremely rewarding to see new species and greater numbers of existing species as a result of our actions!
Our agroforestry
We planted a silvoarable agroforestry system in January 2024; we have planted 8 rows of trees in a 13ha arable field, running north to south. The trees are planted within a 4m strip of flowering plants. We are growing 4 rows of fruit and nut trees and 4 rows of short-rotation coppice – predominantly hazels. We hope to sell the fruit and nuts locally and use the coppiced wood for hedge-laying, chipping and/or composting

Plenty of parking available in our yard, then a 200m walk to get to the agroforestry site.

disability access
Unfortunately the site isn’t great for those with mobility disabilities, with a rough, uneven track. However, if necessary, the track is fine to drive a car up to reach the field.
